Favorite Book

By Ian Pollock Part of the reason I wanted to work with Friends of Literacy is because growing up I was a voracious reader. I often read the same books over and over again. My favorite books are the Song of Ice and Fire, more widely known as A Game of Thrones . The book series has been adopted into a hit HBO show that has introduced millions to it. The books were written by American author George R.R. Martin. Martin is a fantasy , horror , and science fiction author. The books take place on two continents. Greetings! We are the Ready Readers. Ready Readers is an Indiegogo Campaign created to raise funds for Friends of Literacy, a Knoxville nonprofit. Friends of Literacy strives to educate and empower individuals within the Knoxville community who do not have the adequate education to tackle the various tasks of everyday life. Did you know that 10% of adults in Knoxville are functionally illiterate? This means that 10% of Knoxville adults lack the basic education needed to navigate the world. Did you know that the nation’s illiteracy rate is 14%. This means that about 46 million people in the US do not know how to read. Illiteracy within our community is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Ready Readers hopes to bring attention to these numbers. We want to help Friends of Literacy keep its doors open to continue fighting illiteracy in Knoxville. During this journey, we plan to write blogs for you about our favorite books.
